Fourways residents are encouraged to attend a vital public participation meeting scheduled for Thursday, 18 July, at the Bryanston East Community Centre. The meeting, convened by Ward 94 Councillor David Foley, aims to update the community on the progress and future plans for the Jukskei River rehabilitation project, a critical initiative addressing ongoing flood risks and environmental degradation in the area.

The project, which directly impacts properties along the riverbanks from Dainfern to Lonehill, seeks to implement long-term solutions for erosion control, waste management, and the restoration of natural ecosystems. Recent heavy rainfall has highlighted the urgency of these interventions, with several sections of the river experiencing increased bank instability and localized flooding affecting adjacent properties and infrastructure, including areas near Broadacres and the Leaping Frog Shopping Centre. The upcoming meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to review proposed engineering solutions and offer input on environmental impact assessments.

Councillor Foley emphasized the importance of community involvement in shaping the project's direction. "The Jukskei River is a central feature of our Fourways landscape, and its health directly impacts our residents' safety and quality of life. We've seen significant challenges with pollution and erosion, and this project is designed to address those comprehensively. It's crucial that residents attend this meeting to understand the proposed interventions and share their concerns and suggestions," said Foley. He added that the feedback gathered will directly influence the final project design and implementation phases.

Attendees will receive detailed information on the project's timeline, funding allocation, and expected outcomes. Experts from the City of Johannesburg's Environment and Infrastructure Services Department will be present to answer questions and provide technical clarifications. The meeting commences at 6:00 PM, and residents are urged to register their attendance beforehand to ensure adequate seating and materials.
